Back to work

The last big training crunch is here. Here is what my training looks like this week:
  • Sunday - I raced the Cap Tex Tri, an Olympic distance triathlon in downtown Austin. More on that later...
  • Monday - Rest day!
  • Tuesday -
    • Pool swim workout in the morning. Finished with a lethargic 2700 m in around 1:15. For me, it was all about getting back in after the hard effort on Sunday.
    • Evening, speed work with Texas Iron. The workout was geared toward getting your legs moving again. A storm blew in a cooled everything off -- made the workout much more doable.
  • Wednesday -
    • Morning - 30 minutes of weights and core work
    • Evening - 2 hours on the bike with Lost Creek Hill repeats. My goal is 6 for tonight. We will see.
  • Thursday - Texas Iron Bike-Run workout. Bike hard. Run hard. Repeat.
  • Friday - Back into the pool for more work. (1hr)
  • Saturday - I will be doing the Real Ale Ride (the 85 mile route) followed by a 30 minute transition run.
  • Sunday -
    • 3.25 base run. I am going to do the Loop trail (30 km) run to get my mileage in.
    • 30 - 40 min recovery swim
24 days to go.

1 Month to Ironman France!

On June 22nd, I will be swimming 2.4 miles in the Mediterranean, riding 112 miles through the mountains outside the Nice, France and the running 26.2 miles along the Promenade des Anglais as I try to finish my first Ironman. The date is fast approaching and the abstract goal that has been rattling around in my brain for years will be put to the test.

The logistics are all set. My body is ready as it will be. This race the culmination of 4 years of training and racing. I have trained specifically for this race for three months logging hundreds of miles in the water, on the bike and by foot. Can I do it? There is only one way to find out. Try. At its essence, that is why I race -- to test the limits of my mind, my body, and my world. Should be fun.
